Taste buds to tingle at St Albans Food and Drink Festival

Cooking demonstrations, foodie film nights, afternoon teas and wine tastings will set taste buds tingling at this year’s St Albans Food and Drink Festival.

There’s a fantastic array of food and drink events for everyone to enjoy throughout the two-week festival which runs from Wednesday, 26 September to Monday, 8 October. 

Organised by St Albans City and District Council, the festival offers the perfect opportunity to discover local food and drink producers and enjoy the City’s buzzing eating out scene.

Councillor Salih Gaygusuz, Portfolio Holder for Business and Community at St Albans City and District Council, said:

St Albans Food and Drink Festival celebrates our wonderful local food and drink producers and the many restaurants, cafes, pubs we have in the District. There is something for everybody to enjoy at this year’s festival. It includes tastings, cooking demonstrations, food and drink matching events and the fabulous street food Feastival. Make a date to come along to one of the many fantastic foodie events on offer.

The fun kicks off with CAMRA’s Beer and Cider Festival, which runs from Wednesday 26 September until Saturday 29 September at the Alban Arena.

Other highlights include:

  • Italian ‘pop up’ food market - Friday 28 September. Pizza, meats, oil, cheese, olives and other products will be on sale at stalls in St Albans’ city centre.
  • St Albans Feastival - Sunday 30 September. Stalls selling street food and locally-made produce will take over St Peter’s Street, St Albans. There will also be live music, children’s activities, a Moroccan themed bar and a Cookery Theatre where Masterchef finalist Theo Michaels will be among the chefs giving demonstrations.
  • George Street Gin and Jazz - Friday 5 October. Enjoy browsing local shops and boutiques, tasting cocktails and dancing to live music at this event organised by St Albans Business Improvement District.
  • St Albans Food and Drink Awards - Monday 8 October. The winners of this annual competition will be unveiled at the awards ceremony at Sopwell House. More than 190 businesses have been nominated for these awards across 14 categories.

These include sausage making classes, a pick-your-own Apple Day at Oaklands College and beer and food matching classes. There is also an Organic Vegetable Garden Open Day at FoodSmiles in Harpenden and a Gin Cocktail Experience at the Reading Rooms in Wheathampstead.
