St Albans taxi driver suspended after complaints

Publication date:

St Albans City and District Council has suspended a hackney carriage driver’s licence for 12 months after receiving public and police complaints about his driving.

The Council revoked the man's hackney carriage licence in November 2016.

The following month the man appealed to the Magistrates’ Court against the revocation of his licence.
A two-day hearing was scheduled to take place on 27 and 28 March. This did not go ahead as the following consent order was agreed instead:

• The man's hackney carriage driver’s licence be suspended for a period of 12 months from 11 November 2016;
• The man to attend a driver training course agreed by the Council at his own expense. If the course is not completed the suspension will remain in force until evidence is provided to satisfy the Council that the course has been undertaken.
• The man to pay the sum of £2,500 within 28 days as a contribution to the Council’s costs.

Cllr Beric Read, Portfolio Holder for Community, Engagement and Localism at St Albans City and District Council, said: “The Council has a duty to protect the public from unsafe driving by those it licenses. That is why we always take action against any taxi driver where we receive complaints
about their driving from the public and the police. The driver in this case has been suspended for 12 months and has agreed to go on a driver training course.”

Anyone concerned about the driving of a hackney carriage or private hire driver can notify the Council on 01727 296164. They will need to provide the taxi plate or vehicle registration number of the vehicle concerned.
