St Albans’ Franco British Society celebrates 60th anniversary

St Albans Mayor congratulated the District’s Franco British Society on its sixtieth anniversary at a dinner at the Ardmore House Hotel on Wednesday 15 July.

Around 40 French and British people gathered to celebrate the important milestone of this society that was founded ten years after the Second World War ended.

Cllr Salih Gaygusuz, Mayor of St Albans City and District, said: “On behalf of the City and District, I thank the Franco British Society for all they have done to increase goodwill and understanding between our two nations. I offer them my very best wishes for the next sixty years.”

Paul LeMaistre, President of The St Albans and District Franco British Society, said: “We are grateful to the Mayor for supporting us in our very special anniversary. We are very proud to have enjoyed sixty years of friendship and understanding of French culture and history. We are glad to welcome new members at our monthly meetings and conversation groups to help carry on the work of the Society".

The national Franco British Society, whose patron is HM The Queen, was founded in 1944. The St Albans group started in 1955 and has close links with the District’s town-twinning association, The Friends of Nevers.
