Small Business Saturday bus to visit St Albans
An annual nationwide bus tour to promote Small Business Saturday is coming to St Albans for the first time.
The big blue bus will be calling in to the City on Tuesday 27 November and will be parked from 9am to 3pm in front of the Museum + Gallery.
Local businesses will be able to hop aboard and join free mentoring sessions to improve their knowledge and skills.
Experts, including accountants, will be present to offer help and advice on a wide range of business issues.
There will also be the chance for some companies to exhibit and show off their work to the public.
An area in front of the bus, decked out with gazebos and a large blue sofa, will be set aside for this activity.
Small Business Saturday was launched five years ago in the UK and aims to highlight the importance to the economy of Britain’s small business community.
It is being held this year on Saturday 1 December with local businesses being urged to get involved with promotional work on that day.
St Albans City and District Council is backing the campaign and applied for the bus to call in to the City during its nationwide tour which finishes in London on the following day.
Councillor Salih Gaygusuz, Portfolio Holder for Business and the Community, said:
It is a great coup for St Albans to get a bus visit as many other towns and cities competed for the honour.
The organisers recognised that we have a vibrant local economy with about 9,000 small businesses based in the District and particularly strong professional services and green technology sectors.
As a Council, we are active in helping businesses to thrive and recently have been involved with other organisations in planning for the creation of a new enterprise zone.
I urge small businesses whether it’s a family concern, a shop, a manufacturer or an online firm to take advantage of this opportunity and come along to visit the bus as well as take part in Small Business Saturday.
Anyone interested in publicising their business beside the bus or signing up for a mentoring session must pre-book.
Instructions on how to do so can be found on the campaign’s website: smallbusinesssaturdayuk.com/
