Radio Verulam at the Healthy Hub

Publication date:

Community station Radio Verulam has highlighted the many services on offer at St Albans’ Healthy Hub.

Presenter Nick Hazell visited the facility to interview representatives from some of the charities and other organisations which operate from the site.

He heard about the information and advice that is available to residents on many issues including financial debt, weight loss, mental health and addiction problems.

His talks with the various groups were then broadcast on Afternoon Verulam to listeners across the District.

The Healthy Hub is run by St Albans City and District Council at the Civic Centre in St Peter’s Street.

Its overarching aim is to help improve the health as well as the physical and mental wellbeing of the District’s residents.

Among the partner organisations are Citizens Advice, Mind In Mid Herts, Age UK, Hertfordshire Practical Parenting Programme, Communities 1st, Hertfordshire Asian Women’s Association, Credit Union, 1Life, The Living Room, Oaklands College, St Albans Outreach, Shaw Trust and Herts Stop Smoking Service. Hertfordshire County Council has provided some of the funding.

Nick said:

I was very impressed by the breadth and quality of the guidance and information that is on offer on many of the crucial lifestyle issues that people are faced with.

The Healthy Hub is right in the centre of St Albans and easily accessible. I am pleased that we were able to draw attention to the services it provides and hope more people make use of it.

Councillor Robert Donald, Chair of the St Albans Health and Wellbeing Partnership, said: “I’m delighted Radio Verulam made the Healthy Hub the centrepiece of an afternoon broadcast.

One of the Aims of the Healthy Hub is to relieve pressure on busy GP surgeries locally by offering support and activities that will help resolve physical and mental health and wellbeing issues by other means than just medication. The Hub can also provide signposting help and advice as to where people can go to find appropriate help with a range of illnesses connected with lifestyle and stress.

This is a great new facility and we want everyone in the District to be aware of it so they can make use of its services if the need ever arises.
