Parking restrictions in Market Place go live in July
Enforcement of parking restrictions in Market Place, Spencer Street and Upper Dagnall Street will begin on Saturday 1 July 2017.
The restrictions will help increase the turnover of vehicles allowing more people to park for short periods to visit near-by businesses and shops.
People will be able pay to park in pay and display bays for up to one hour on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, from 8am to 6.30pm. Parking on Wednesdays, Saturdays and other occasional market days will be prohibited from 3am to 6.30pm.
The new Traffic Regulation Order setting out the restrictions has been put in place by St Albans City and District Council following a long consultation process.
New signage and pay and display machines have been erected ahead of the start of enforcement on Saturday 1 July 2017. Single yellow lines have also been marked in the pay and display bays, prohibiting parking on Wednesdays, Saturdays and
other market days.
Councillor Beric Read, Portfolio Holder for Business and Community for St Albans City and District Council, said: “The parking restrictions in Market Place, Spencer Street and Upper Dagnall Street will help the local economy. There will be an increase in the turnover of parking spots so more people can visit local shops and businesses.”
More information about parking is on the Council’s website.
