Mayor revisits the 1990’s to help raise over £4,000 for Open Door

Publication date:

Over £4,000 was raised for homelessness charity, Open Door, when more than a hundred people joined St Albans Mayor to “Rewind through the ‘90s”.

Local charity Seva St Albans organised the fundraising event that took place in Charles Morris Hall, Tyttenhanger, on Saturday 14 November.

Guests in 1990’s gear danced to live music from The Britpop Reunion and enjoyed delicious food from Nick Male, former executive chef in Terence Conran’s brasseries.

Cllr Salih Gaygusuz, Mayor of St Albans City and District, said: “I was very pleased to support this wonderful 1990’s event in aid of the Open Door charity, which is St Albans’ only night shelter for the homeless.

“I am very grateful to everyone who gave so generously to help Open Door provide more services to people who urgently need them. I especially want to thank Seva St Albans, the project-based charity otherwise known as Rebecca Sanderson, Geetanjili Jagota and Zarrine Dye, who organised this amazing evening.”

Zarrine Dye, Secretary of Seva St Albans, said: “It was very heartening to see so many people come out and have fun for such a good cause. I want to thank the Mayor and all those who came to support our fundraising for Open Door.

"We hope these generous donations will go towards the installation of a shower room where Open Door’s day service users can wash and freshen up. We also want to raise awareness about homelessness in St Albans and the difficulties encountered by some of the most vulnerable people in our City.”
