Improving the community
Major work is to be undertaken this month to improve one of the main attractions at Verulamium Park in St Albans.
The highly-popular splash park is to be resurfaced in time for this year’s opening in early May. A huge draw for parents with very young children, the park has 12 water features and provides a safe, fun activity zone.
In another improvement, damaged fencing at the nearby tennis courts is to be replaced over the spring and early summer.
Elsewhere, work to renew the playground at the Victoria Playing Fields, off Folly Lane, is to start in May.
The Foxcroft playground in the City’s Cunningham ward will undergo a similar transformation later in the year.
Details of planned improvements are to be given in an update on asset maintenance to St Albans City and District Council’s Cabinet on Thursday 16 March.
In other developments, repairs to brickwork at Luton Road Bridge in Harpenden were completed earlier this
week. Much of the work was undertaken at night to minimise traffic disruption.
Councillor Brian Ellis, the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: “There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to maintain a wealth of community assets across the District.
“The splash park is a particularly popular attraction with thousands of people going there in the summer months and we want to keep it in top condition.
“We have 50 outdoor play areas and we are responding well to the challenge of modernising them when they show signs of wear and tear.”
