Give your views on an Access Pass to help older people with car parking

Publication date:

Residents in St Albans District are asked to give their views on a proposed Access Pass to help older people with car parking.

St Albans City and District Council is considering the introduction of the pass to aid those who might have difficulty with digital payment methods.

A public consultation has started into the proposal aimed at ensuring people do not feel digitally excluded.

Under the proposals, those eligible would be able to purchase an annual Access Pass which they could use at all Council car parks.

The pass would cost £190 a year and be valid for one visit a day for up to three hours.

To be eligible for the pass, a person would need to be a resident of the District and be born before 1954.

Councillor Helen Campbell, Chair of the Public Realm Committee and Lead for Car Parking, said:

We are committed to being an inclusive Council that is responsive to the needs of all our community.

We know that many of our older citizens are happy to pay by contactless cards and mobile phone apps, but there are some who struggle with these modern methods.

An Access Pass is designed to help them by providing a more traditional way of paying, making it easier for them to use our car parks.

We want people to take part in this consultation and provide us with their views before we make any final decisions.

Residents can view the proposals and take part in the consultation here or email parking.development@stalbans.gov.uk with their views. The consultation closes on Tuesday 17 September.
