Get your free guide on how to make your home more eco-friendly and cut energy bills

Publication date:

A free guide on how to make your home more energy-efficient and reduce your energy bills has been published.

The booklet, available to download, is called Retrofitting Your House For A Cosier, Greener Home.

It covers low-cost measures, such as smart meters and thermal curtains, which can help people cut their energy consumption.

Information about more substantial upgrades, including insulation, heat pumps and solar panels, are also included.

The costs of improvements are detailed along with the potential reductions to harmful carbon emissions for seven typical home types from Victorian terraces to modern structures.

Hertfordshire Climate Change and Sustainability Partnership, which includes all ten district and borough councils in the county, have produced the interactive guide.

St Albans City and District Council, one of the Partnership’s members, is urging its residents to download the booklet and consider retrofitting their home.

Councillor Raj Visram, Lead for Climate Change, said:

This is an excellent guide, packed with vital information about how people can make valuable home improvements.

It is completely free and I hope many of our residents will take advantage of it. Boosting a home’s energy efficiency can increase its value and improve the wellbeing of householders.

As a Council, we are committed to decarbonising our buildings and operations by 2030 and doing all we can to support the District to eliminate fossil fuels by the same date. Many residents want to do more to reduce the environmental impacts and this guide will help them understand where to start.
