Council’s full of life event to celebrate Older People’s Day

Publication date:

St Albans District is celebrating National Older People's Day on Thursday 8 October with a fun-packed event at the Alban Arena.

Older people are invited to drop in, discover and discuss all the opportunities available in the District.

There is no need to book your place for the event which runs from 10am to 2pm with free tea, coffee and cake provided.

It is organised by St Albans City and District Council in partnership with OPALS (Older Persons’ Activity Learning and Safety).

Tell us your views about issues affecting older people. The key themes from these discussions will help form the agenda for future meetings of the Older People’s Forum. The Forum was set up by the Council to give older people a say in decisions that affect their quality of life.

As part of the OPALS project, the Fire Service, Police Service, Neighbourhood Watch and Trading Standards will offer advice on crime prevention, staying safe and avoiding scams.

There will be opportunities to take part in exercise sessions from Extend Exercise and Reiki relaxation sessions.

You can browse stalls hosted by a range of organisations providing activities, information and advice. They include:

• Age UK

• Centre for Voluntary Service

• Computer Friendly

• Jubilee Centre
