Grade II listed Market Place building restored
The façade of a grade II listed building in the centre of St Albans has been restored by St Albans City and District Council.
Contractors have been working since January to repair the structural brickwork to the front of the council owned building at 35 Market Place. At a meeting on Tuesday 21 July, Cabinet will receive a report saying that this work is now complete and the scaffolding removed. Minor decorative work to make good the interior is currently being undertaken and is due to finish shortly.
Cllr Brian Ellis, Portfolio Holder for Housing at St Albans City and District Council, said: “The exterior of this beautiful and historic building in the heart of our City has now been restored. I want to thank tenants, adjoining retailers and market traders for their patience while this essential work was carried out.” The Council is seeking to re-let the empty office space on the first floor. Anyone interested in letting the space, can contact the Council’s estates’ team on 01727 819516 or by email at estates@stalbans.gov.uk.
The public can attend the Cabinet meeting at 7pm on Tuesday July 21 at the District Council’s offices at the Civic Centre, St Peter’s Street, St Albans. The meeting is also being webcast and can be watched on the Council’s website.
