All welcome at St Albans Mayor’s Civic Service on 15 October
Celebrate ‘Working as one Community’ at the Civic Service for St Albans City and District that is taking place at the Cathedral on Sunday 15 October.
The proceedings will start at 11.05am with a small civic procession that includes the Mayor of the City and District of St Albans, Councillor Mohammad Iqbal Zia. He will wear full mayoral regalia and be accompanied by the mace-bearer, Deputy Mayor, Town, Parish, District and County Councillors, as well as Honorary Aldermen.
The service will be led by Dr Jeffrey John, Dean of St Albans Cathedral. It will include performances by Camp Primary and Nursery School of Labi Siffre’s ‘Something Inside So Strong’ and ‘Sing’ by Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
There will also be an interfaith dialogue covering the topics of Justice and Community. This is being delivered by Rt Revd Dr Richard Atkinson, Bishop of Bedford and Co-Chair of the Inter Faith Network for the UK. He will be joined by the Mayor’s Chaplain Maulana Abdul Muhit, Imam of London Colney Islamic Centre.
Both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Jamie Day, will give readings. Prayers will be said by the Mayor’s sons and the Chief Executive of St Albans City and District Council.
The Mayor of the City and District of St Albans, Councillor Mohammad Iqbal Zia, said: “Everyone is welcome to come along to the Civic Service to celebrate working as a community. Representatives from local voluntary groups, charities, faiths, businesses and public bodies will all be present at this special service helping to bring the community together.”
During the service there will be a collection for the Mayor’s charity Youth Talk and a prayer from its Chief Executive, Trevor Fromant. Youth Talk provides a much-needed confidential counselling service for local young people aged 13-25.
At the end of the service, there will be a civic procession through the streets of St Albans to the offices of the District Council, weather permitting.
