Come to St Albans Mayor’s annual charity ball fundraiser
Help raise funds for the charity Youth Talk at the Mayor’s Civic Ball on Friday 9 March when guests will be treated to an evening with an Asian twist.
There will be a Bollywood-style dance performance and a three-course dinner influenced by Asian cuisine at the charity fundraising evening.
The event is being held at Sopwell House Hotel at Cottonmill Lane, St Albans from 6.45pm to midnight.
Former Minister of State for Justice and a former Chair of the Youth Justice Board, Lord McNally, will give the after dinner speech. He will talk about his experiences in the House of Lords and how the Mayor’s charity Youth Talk helps young people overcome emotional difficulties.
Guests will then have the opportunity to dance the night away to popular songs performed by Hertfordshire -based band Co Jones.

The Civic Ball offers a great opportunity to have an enjoyable evening while also helping to raise funds for a worthy cause. Please come along to support Youth Talk, my mayoral charity for the year. Youth Talk provides a much-needed confidential counselling and support service for young people. The charity holds a place close to my heart as it works tirelessly to help young people with social, emotional and educational needs.
The evening will also include a raffle and a tombola to help raise funds for the charity.
Youth Talk’s Chief Executive, Trevor Fromant, said:
Youth Talk is a small, local charity that is dependent on grants and the generosity of donors to deliver its services. We are grateful to the Mayor for agreeing to donate any funds raised from the Civic Ball to us. The charity provides a much-valued counselling service for young people who are distressed and in need of support emotionally.

Notes:
Cllr Mohammad Iqbal Zia was made Mayor of the City and District of St Albans on 24 May 2017. The theme for his year in office is ‘Your Community – Our Community’. The Mayor has also chosen to support Youth Talk by raising funds for the charity during the year. The Mayor was born in Pakistan and emigrated to the UK in 1982. He currently works as a personal advisor to young people at Hertfordshire Youth Connexions.
The charity Youth Talk provides a confidential counselling service for young people, aged 13 to 25, who live, work or are in education in St Albans District.
