General Election on Thursday 4 July: make sure you have photo ID

Publication date:

Residents in the St Albans District are urged to check if they have valid photo ID to vote at a polling station at the General Election on Thursday 4 July.

Voters are required to present an approved form of photo ID in order to vote at a polling station.

This includes a current or expired UK passport or driver’s licence as long as the photograph is a true likeness of the voter.

The original ID is required because polling station staff are not allowed to accept copies of ID documents such as a photo on a mobile phone.

Anyone who does not have one of the accepted types of ID can apply for free ID online by the deadline of 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.

Details of approved photo ID and how to apply for the free ID, known as a Voter Authority Certificate, are available on the poll cards and the Electoral Commission’s website here

Anyone who has difficulty applying online can obtain a paper copy of the application form. This can be requested by email to elections@stalbans.gov.uk or by calling 01727 819294.
