St Albans Greener Together launched – all urged to join the sustainability project
An exciting project to promote sustainability in St Albans District has been launched with everyone invited to become involved.
St Albans Greener Together is run by St Albans City and District Council in partnership with the University of Hertfordshire.
The aim is to create a network of residents, schools, businesses and other organisations who are committed to taking positive action to produce a more sustainable District.
This will include initiatives to cut harmful emissions, promote renewable energy sources such as solar panels and encourage more sustainable travel such as electric vehicles and cycling.
Some funding will be available to help finance viable projects that will have the potential to make a lasting impact on the community.
Greener Together members will also have the chance to exchange ideas, pass on knowledge of their activities and get expert advice.
Among the groups to have joined up already are the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust and Sustainable St Albans.
There is also a Greener Together website where members can access helpful resources and a What’s On guide to sustainability events held in the District.
The Greener Together team launched the project at the SustFest Expo, the opening event of this year’s St Albans Sustainability Festival.
They staffed a stall at the Alban Arena where they explained the project to people and signed up new members.
Among those who attended the event was St Albans Mayor, Councillor Jamie Day, who said:
I am delighted to support this important and imaginative new project to tackle climate change by encouraging sustainable lifestyles and behaviours.
It is a project that has the potential to unite our communities and bring people together from all walks of life to improve sustainability across the District.
By creating a network of motivated individuals and organisations, Greener Together can have a significant impact and make a real difference to the local area.
I urge all those who want to play their part in combating climate change and enhancing sustainability to sign up as members and get involved.
