Mayor’s Pride Awards 2024: nominations are open
Nominations have opened for next year’s St Albans Mayor’s Pride Awards - including one for an individual or organisation that has brought the generations together.
The awards celebrate extraordinary people and outstanding community groups that make a positive contribution to St Albans District.
Councillor Anthony Rowlands, Mayor of St Albans City and District, has made All Ages Together the theme of his year in office.
In view of that, he will make a special award to recognise a contribution towards the promotion of “intergenerational activities.”
Residents are invited to nominate their community heroes for the other eight award categories from now until Sunday 21 January.
A judging panel will then meet to assess the nominees and decide on the winners who will be presented with their awards by the Mayor at a special ceremony in the Civic Centre on Tuesday 5 March.
The awards, which were rested last year, are sponsored by KJ Smith Solicitors and supported by community radio station mix92.6. The categories are.
Community Champion of the Year - someone who has gone out of their way to help others.
Cultural Innovation Award - a person or group that has contributed to the arts, culture or sport, inspired creativity, or simply made the District a better place to live.
Young Person of Distinction - an exceptional child or young person who deserves recognition for their talent, positivity, energy or strength of character.
Community Project of the Year - a project undertaken by a group or individual that has identified and met a local need.
Community-Oriented Business of the Year - a business that works with the public or local organisations to benefit the community.
Environmental Champion of the Year - a group or individual showing innovation or commitment to improving the local environment.
Volunteer Award - a volunteer who has gone the extra mile or given many years of service or an organisation that delivers outstanding service to the community, primarily using volunteers.
Inclusive Communities Award - an individual or group that unites people of diverse backgrounds and abilities.

I am delighted to announce the return of the Mayor’s Pride Awards after an absence of a year.
I am sure many of our residents will want to nominate individuals or groups that deserve recognition for the work they do to make our communities stronger.
This is our chance to shine the spotlight on these unsung heroes and extraordinary organisations.
During my time as Mayor, I have been keen to highlight initiatives to bring together people of all ages and tackle loneliness and isolation.
That is why there will be a special award to an individual or group that has impressed us with their work in this important area.
