Mayor helps resident celebrate her 106th birthday
St Albans Mayor, Councillor Anthony Rowlands, called on resident Amelia Neal as she celebrated – her 106th birthday!
He met retired pharmacist Amelia – known as Mim – at her flat at Parkside View, St Albans, an independent-living housing block for older people.
Amelia has two great-great-grandchildren with a third on the way and keeps in touch with her family via her iPad.
The Mayor, who has made All Generations Together the theme of his civic year, said:
It was an enormous privilege to visit Mim on her 106th Birthday.
She had just been to the hairdresser and was preparing to go out for a birthday celebration in Bedfordshire.
I first met Mim in November when she was the oldest attendee at a fantastic intergenerational event at Skyswood Primary School in Marshalswick.
It is extraordinary to reflect that Mim was born in 1917 when the First World War was raging and David Lloyd George was Prime Minister. She truly spans the generations. Happy Birthday Mim.
Mim celebrated her birthday on Thursday 7 December.
