Celebrate Love Parks Week on Friday 28 July to Sunday 6 August
St Albans City and District Council is supporting Love Parks Week 2023 – a nationwide celebration of our favourite green spaces.
The Council owns Verulamium and Clarence Park in St Albans as well as other open spaces across the District.
Love Parks Week takes place this year from Friday 28 July to Sunday 6 August and is intended to bring communities together to celebrate these national treasures.
The Council will be encouraging residents to get out and about, visit parks and enjoy all the facilities they have to offer as well as connect with nature.
There will be posters promoting the week put up in the Council’s parks while the campaign will be highlighted on its social media pages.
Chris Traill, the Council’s Strategic Director for Community and Place Delivery, said:
Love Parks Week is an exciting event and I’d urge people to join us in supporting it.
The summer school holidays are an ideal time for people of all ages to go out and experience our wonderful parks whether it’s for a casual stroll, a meet up with friends or to enjoy some healthy exercise or sporting activity.
There is so much to do at our green spaces - Verulamium, for instance, has a splash park for little ones, an outstanding children’s playground and around 40 acres of fabulous meadows and woodland.
Allison Ogden-Newton, Chief executive of the charity Keep Britain Tidy which runs the campaign, said:
Love Parks Week would not be possible without the backing of our local authority partners, including St Albans City and District Council, park managers and landowners.
This week is an opportunity for everyone to recognise the value of our parks and green spaces for communities, health and wellbeing, and to encourage groups within our communities that may not think of parks as a space for them to visit.
The Council was recently presented with four Green Flag awards in recognition of its outstanding parks and open spaces.
The Green Flag, an international quality mark, was given to Verulamium Park, Clarence Park and Hatfield Road Cemetery.
Verulamium Park was also one of only 135 places awarded Green Heritage Site Accreditation for the excellent management the historic Roman features.
