Charter Market events at Easter Weekend
The historic Charter Market in St Albans will host an exciting musical event during the Easter Weekend.
St Albans Musical Theatre Company is to perform some of the songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical, School of Rock.
They will be entertaining shoppers at the twice-weekly market on Saturday 8 April outside the Five Guys restaurant.
The Theatre Company is staging the full musical, which is based on a film of the same name, at the Alban Arena from Tuesday 25 to Saturday 29 April.
Their appearance is part of a new events programme for the market that is intended to add to the atmosphere and attract more visitors.
Some traders at the market, which is run by St Albans City and District Council, will also be selling Easter gifts such as chocolate and flowers.
The monthly Sunday market will also take place on the following day, Sunday 9 April, with its emphasis on food and drink as well as arts and crafts. Many of the products will be from local suppliers.
If weather permits, there will also be street performers including the Farmers Market Jazz band.
Christine Traill, the Council’s Strategic Director for Community and Place Delivery, said:
The market will be a fabulous place to be during the Easter weekend with so much going on.
The St Albans Musical Theatre Company is certainly going to liven up Easter for people visiting by sampling their School of Rock musical.
We are committed to transforming the market into a place that people go to, not just to shop, but also to enjoy new experiences and get a taste of the cultural life of the District. This live musical theatre is part of that new approach.
Our traders will also be embracing the Easter holiday spirit and selling many seasonal products and gifts such as chocolate eggs, so I urge people to go along and see what is on offer on both Saturday and Sunday.
