Changes to Council’s Cabinet Announced

The Executive Leader of St Albans City and District Council, Cllr Julian Daly, is making changes to the Cabinet team.  The changes will take place with effect from the Council’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday 22 May.

Cllr Teresa Heritage is stepping down as Portfolio Holder for Planning and Conservation, following her appointment as Cabinet Member for Public Health and Localism at Hertfordshire County Council.  Cllr Daly will give up his Resources portfolio and take on the Planning portfolio, in addition to his responsibilities as Leader of the Council.

Cllr Alec Campbell will join the Cabinet as Portfolio Holder for Resources.

Cllr Campbell lives in St Albans with his wife and three children and represents the City Centre ward of St Peters.  He is a former school governor at Beaumont School and, as a keen runner, is set to take part in the St Albans Half Marathon in June.

Cllr Campbell is a chartered electronic engineer whose day job is delivering telecoms infrastructure for fixed and wireless operators.

Commenting on his new Cabinet role, Cllr Campbell said: “I am very much looking forward to taking on the Resources Portfolio role.  I recognise the importance of the vital services the Council provides, particularly to the most vulnerable in our society.  I will work closely with colleagues to ensure best value for money in delivering services to our residents, businesses and visitors.  I hope to bring a pragmatic, logical and responsible approach to the role.”

Cllr Daly commented: “Cllr Campbell brings many years’ experience as a chartered engineer to his new role.  I am sure such experience will be a great asset to Cabinet as we work to deliver our priorities in constrained financial circumstances.

“I wish to thank Cllr Teresa Heritage for her contribution as Planning Portfolio Holder over the last two years. I will be taking on the Planning and Conservation portfolio in addition to my role as Council Leader.  The planning department is one of the busiest of any district in the country.  We face complex planning issues and I want to concentrate more of my time in that area.”
