The Planning Department is responsible for controlling the use and development of land for homes and buildings in a sustainable way.
Building Control ensure that all newly erected, extended and altered buildings within the district meet building regulation requirements and are constructed to a standard that protects people's health, safety, welfare and convenience.
Many developments will require both a planning application and a Building Control application.
Are you awaiting the outcome of a planning application?
Due to the very high number of planning applications, and staff recruitment issues, there may be a delay in planning decisions in some cases. The target is to deal with 75% of all planning applications within the eight week statutory timescales. At present, we are achieving 75%. The average decision time for all planning applications is currently 13 weeks. For major applications, the average time is 19.9 weeks and for minors is 12 weeks. Householder planning applications are being considered faster, on average in 11 weeks.
If you are affected by a delay in your planning decision, we offer you our sincere apologies and ask you to bear with us. Our officers are doing their utmost to get through a very high workload as efficiently and quickly as they can. Many thanks for your patience - we will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
