Planning & Building Control
The role of Planning and Building Control cannot be underestimated in its history and journey to continue to make St Albans the attractive place it is to live, work and visit. The department has overall responsibility for controlling the use and development of land for homes and buildings in a sustainable way and our Local Plan is out to public consultation in the Autumn.
These are exciting times for our Council. As the economy is strengthening, this increases public demand for our services. Our team continues to grow and develop to meet this increase in service expectation.
We are one of the busiest planning departments in the country and continue to see increasing demand for a variety of developments, ranging from proposals in the green belt, conservation areas, nationally significant heritage assets, the City Centre to neighbourhood centres.
