Clinical waste collection from domestic properties
We have a duty to collect clinical waste from a domestic property.
The Council's contractors, Veolia, arrange for the separate collection of clinical waste e.g. dialysis waste, which is then disposed of by incineration. These collections are currently free of charge.
The Collection of Sharps (needles/syringes etc)
Please do not put sharps in with the household refuse as they may seriously injure the collection or disposal operatives.
We offer a collection service to domestic properties for sharps presented in proper containers (yellow lidded sharps bin). These containers should be provided by the GP or hospital clinic responsible for prescribing the injectable medication to the patient. Arrangements can then be made through the Council for the collection of the sharps container when full. Any replacement sharps bin should be provided by the GP or hospital clinic and not the Council.
If you have sharps under a local needle exchange scheme, then please continue with the current arrangements with your participating pharmacy.
NB The Council does not collect Clinical Waste from commercial or industrial premises - This service is for domestic customers only.
