A search has started to find a new Chief Executive to head St Albans City and District Council at one of the most exciting times in its history.

Applicants will need to show they have the vision and drive required to complete a series of ambitious, multi-million pound developments across the District.

These include a new £7.75 million Museum and Art Gallery that will transform St Albans City Centre, and an £18 million sports and arts hub in neighbouring Harpenden.

The new Chief Executive will also be expected to steer the Council’s Strategic Local Plan through to adoption.

S/he will lead a staff of around 400 officers and oversee the digital transformation of the Council’s services.

They will also be expected to work closely with a wide range of partner organisations.  These include businesses, the University of Hertfordshire and Oaklands College of Further Education, the NHS and other local authorities.

In recognition of the challenges faced by the new post holder, the Council is offering a competitive salary and benefits package.

Councillor Alec Campbell, the Council’s Leader, said: “We are searching for a customer orientated, talented and inspiring individual who can lead our organisation.

“We have embarked on an ambitious programme of commercial and organisational development so we need someone with the entrepreneurial and collaborative skills needed to deliver for our community.

“St Albans is a high performing, vibrant and creative place to live and work, an historic City that is changing and developing in many positive ways.

“The Council’s new Chief Executive will be at the centre of activity and act as an ambassador for the District. I am looking forward to working closely with them and their leadership team in the years ahead.”
