Robbery is a theft which involves force or threat of force so it can be a frightening experience as well as resulting in the loss of personal items.

Although the number of these incidents in Hertfordshire is low the police can tackle the problem if you report any suspicious activity you witness and any information you have about people you think are involved in robbery.

Top tips to avoid robbery

Robbery causes much public concern but in fact there are only 1.5 offences per day across the entire county and Hertfordshire remains one of the safest counties in which to live, work and travel.

Below are some measures you can take to reduce the chances of becoming a victim:

  • Carry your bag close to you with the clasp facing inwards

  • Register your phone for free at immobilise.com
  • Don't carry large amounts of cash

  • Don't wear a lot of jewellery
  • Think about your route especially if you are on your own
  • When walking at night stick with friends or take a taxi
