We are now consulting on our revised Pavement Licensing Policy for licensing areas outside your premises as an outside seating area.  This consultation starts on 23rd November and last for 12 weeks, ending on 15th February 2013.

This page explains how to access the draft revised policy and how to comment on the proposed changes.

Pavement Licensing Policy for licensing areas outside your premises as an outside seating area

We regulate the use of outside areas under the Highways Act 1980.  Our policy sets out how we will consider applications for permission to put tables and chairs on the highway outside your premises and operate this area as part of your business.

We have revised the policy to make sure that it is clear and easier to understand.  We have also changed the fees structure to assist smaller businesses:
• The way we charge fees for applications and renewals
• The way be reimburse fees for consistency and fairness
We have amended the conditions attached to the licence to provide clarity to the licence holder on their responsibilities.
