Four Green Flag Awards for St Albans City and District Council
Four Green Flag awards have been given to St Albans City and District Council in recognition of its outstanding parks and open spaces.
The Green Flag, an international quality mark, was given to Verulamium Park, Clarence Park and Hatfield Road Cemetery.
Verulamium Park was also one of only 135 places awarded Green Heritage Site Accreditation. This award, supported by Historic England, is for the excellent management of the park’s ancient Roman features.
The Green Flag Award scheme is run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
It recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark for green spaces across the United Kingdom and the world.
Chris Traill, the Council’s Strategic Director for Community and Place Delivery, said:
I’m delighted that we have been given four Green Flags in the 2023 awards.
This is testament to the hard work and dedication of our parks and green spaces team along with our grounds maintenance contractor John O’Conner.
As a Council, we are committed to providing our residents with open spaces of the highest standard, places where they can relax, exercise or meet up with friends and family in a wonderful environment.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd said:
I would like to congratulate everyone involved at St Albans City and District Council for achieving four Green Flag Awards.
These are vital green spaces for the community, bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles. The staff do so much to ensure that the high standards of the Green Flag are maintained and everyone should feel extremely proud of their achievement.
